2019 Sports Day Update

After a successful program of Makar Sankranti, Maharashtra Mandal of Chicago had yet another feather in their cap, MMC Sports Day! On March 2nd, at Play n Thrive facility, 130+ players participated in Table Tennis, Badminton, Carrom and Throwball tournaments.

This year, many non-Maharashtrians participated in the event, showcasing the spirit of ‘community outreach’. All the participants received light snacks such as ‘Vada pav’, fruits, juice, tea-coffee and specially designed MMC T-shirt.

With the help of volunteers, all the nail-biting finals were shown live on Facebook which was a great proof of how our mandal is leveraging technology to promote sports and healthy lifestyle.

This year’s main attraction was women ‘Throwball’ tournament, which was conducted for the first time in the history of MMC. There were total 7 teams (7 players per team) and the games were really interesting. Inspired from this tournament, MMC has formed MMC Throwball team at Naperville and Schaumburg locations for women 18 and above. If you are interested please contact us.

All the games were competitive and it was a treat for eyes to watch these games, especially the finals. First place and runner-ups were awarded with cash prizes and gift coupons. The tournament results were as follows:

Table Tennis (Singles – kids) – Total 8 participants
First place: Akshay M
Runner-up: Rithvik Mane
